10/8-10/9 Game Recap

By Sarah Wood

It was a crazy weekend at Haynes Pavilion, two great games, a lot of goals and new fans! We would like to thank all of our fans, parents, billets and sponsors for making weekends like this possible, without you it wouldn’t be the same! Let’s get into stats, before the weekend, Icedogs sat 4th in the frontier division, and the Yellowstone Quake 7th.  The Icedogs, sweeping the weekend gained four points, now 3rd in the division, only four points behind Helena Bighorns.

Game 1

The first game of the weekend we saw a lot of players in the humbling sin bin, both from Yellowstone and Bozeman. The Dogs with 34 minutes and 18 minutes in Cody’s box, a grand total of 52 minutes. Thankfully, the Icedogs trips to the box were made up in goals. The first goal of the game sadly went through the hands of Collin Solderholm, scored by Yellowstone’s Jaxon Call, assisted by Keegan Ferguson and Logan Brown. Of-course your hometown Icedogs came alive and scored 3 goals. Jaden Aguilera scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Forrest Musselman, next Luke Buscher ASST Ian Bowman, then Nick Smith and Nick Stevens. Brandon Kiddis of the Quake set the buzzer off with only 1 second left in the period, ending the period 3-2 in favor of Bozeman. The 2nd period saw few goals. 20 seconds into the period, Yellowstone scored, evening the scoreboard 3-3. 6 minutes later, Forrest Mussleman landed a gino and brought the Icedogs back to a 1-point lead.  The 3rd period brought the game home, Icedogs Ian Bowman and Nate Brunelle scored, immediately followed by Shane Domanick, assisted by Bowman and Luke Buscher. The period ended with Yellowstone’s Jack Harris and Keegan Ferguson scoring, ending the game 6-4 Icedogs. Goalie Collin Solderholm of the Icedogs saved 22/26 shots. Brandon Lakusta started in net for Yellowstone, where he saved 5/8 but was pulled and replaced by Jarret Perino, who saved 31/34 shots.

Game 2

The Icedogs really brought their best for the 2nd game of the weekend against the Quake. In the 1st period, the Dogs scored 3 goals, goalie Liam Scott even got in on the action, getting an assist to Cole Buschers powerplay goal. Yellowstone saw a couple trips to the box, but the only Dog in the pound was Liam Massie, called on a 2-minute roughing. The 2nd period favored Bozeman, another 3 goals, Luke Buscher, no assist, Colton Boyd assisted by Bowman and Domanick, and Ian Bowman, assisted by Domanick and Colton Boyd. Yellowstone made the majority of their 54 penalty minutes in the 2nd period, 30 minutes of play time spent in the box. That being said, the icedogs weren’t home free this game when it came to penalty’s, Jaden Aguilera and Grayden Pond were sent to the jail for unsportsmanlike, both serving 10-minute major sentences. Aguilera joined by Nick Smith put icedogs into a 5 on 4 powerplay for Yellowstone, where Gabe Coppo, assisted by Cameron Deforest and Cole Whitman scored, ending the period 6-1. Yellowstone seemed to pick it up in the 3rd, scoring 2 goals, but the icedogs brought the game up 8-3. Goalie Eastman, Yellowstone’s net minder played a full 60 minutes and saved 49/57 shots. Icedogs netminder, Liam Scott saved 29/32 and brought a point to his team by assisting Cole Buscher.

We would like to send a prayer out to Luke Hartmark and Nate Brunelle, two Icedog players who were injured this weekend. We wish them a fast, and safe recovery and hope to see them back on the ice when they are healed.
